Hunting and Fishing in New Caledonia
New Caledonia is a tropical Island. Warm during the day and cool
at night. The ocean waters around the island are rich with exotic
fish and beautiful corals. Hunting of these, world class, Rusa
Stags is generally done between mid July and the end of August,
this being the rut period.
It is not unusual for a hunter to see over a hundred deer during a
day and often will view several trophy stags. These hunts are for
entirely free ranging deer with no high fences involved. The world
record for Rusa Stag has been broken several times in the
past few years, in New Caledonia, this is a chance to take a new
record. Hunting is done by walking, spotting and stalking. As the
terrain is gentle rolling hills or coastal flat areas, the physical
requirements are not high.
Accommodations are in air - conditioned bungalows with private
facilities, situated on hotel grounds where you will have your
meals.
As the prime hunting period for Rusa is limited, we advise any
hunter contemplating this the “best deer hunt in the world” to make
an early booking. You will not be disappointed!
Home of the Giant Rusa Stags -
Javan Rusa Deer are
available wild and free on the island of New Caledonia. The only
time to hunt for Javan Rusa Deer in New Caledonia is during the rut
from mid-July to mid-August each year. Hunting begins well before
daylight. Listen for the stags roaring and then attempt to close on
elected stags prior to daybreak by glassing and stalking woodlot
edges on unfenced farmlands.
